My Lines
This is quite ambitious for a small rattery but as we move into 2025, Gingerbread Rats will be focussing on three core lines.
1. Champagne / Chocolate
This is my core line and no matter what else happens in the rattery, this is the line that I'll always be keeping and working on as I absolutely love my chams. My main focus is on the champagnes but this needs pairing with chocolate to keep the coat a nice rich colour. I picked up this line with foundations from Beeghos Rats.
Any rats homed from this line will be champagne or chocolate in top or dumbo.
2. Lilac
This is a project line for me. Currently there is only one active breeder in the UK breeding and exhibiting lilac. I decided that I want to build this line from scratch starting with a chocolate dumbo doe I bred myself paired with a handsome British Blue Beeghos buck. This variety is based on a few recessives and will take a lot of work however, I'm happy with where I am right now for a new project and confident that I'm headed in the right direction. The major difference from this line to the current Rivendell line that exists in the UK is that I will be breeding this line also in dumbo as well as top and I'm also aiming to use American mink, rather than UK mink. For more info on how this line is being built please take a look here.
Any rats homed from this line could be black, chocolate, mink, lavender or British Blue in top or dumbo.
3. Quicksilver
When I first saw quicksilver on the bench at a show I fell in love with it. Since then, Zephyr Rats, the main UK breeder of this variety have decided to pass on certain lines to other breeders as they slim down their current breeding plans and I've picked up the line. I'm excited for my first pairings in 2025 for this variety. Quicksilver is Am mink and British blue so I'm hoping this will cross paths with my lilac line quite nicely. I will also be outcrossing at some point to add dumbo to this line.
Any rats homed from this line could be British blue, American mink or quicksilver primarily in top.
